Understanding NAD+ and Cellular Energy
How a single coenzyme sits at the center of energy production, DNA repair and aging research.

What NAD+ does
NAD+ is a coenzyme that carries electrons between metabolic reactions. Converted to NADH, it delivers those electrons to the mitochondrial electron transport chain, which powers ATP synthesis.
Why levels matter
Enzymes such as PARPs and sirtuins consume NAD+ while repairing DNA and regulating stress responses. Studies in animals and people show NAD+ declines in some tissues with age.
What the evidence shows
Human trials have mostly tested oral precursors like nicotinamide riboside. They reliably raise blood NAD+ but have shown mixed effects on health outcomes. Evidence for injections is thinner still.
